"What ninety percent could not accomplish, the remaining ten percent will not suddenly accomplish." This simple statement carries a profound spiritual truth.
Many people struggle financially, not because God has forgotten them, but because they have not fully understood the covenant principles that govern His Kingdom. We often become so protective of what remains in our hands that we fail to realise that the greatest breakthrough may lie in releasing it in obedience to God. The issue has never been the size of what we possess but the willingness of our hearts to trust the One who gave it to us in the first place.
The Kingdom of God operates on principles that frequently challenge human reasoning. The world teaches us that wealth is accumulated by holding tightly to what we have, but the Kingdom teaches that increase begins with release.
Jesus declared in Luke 6:38, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom."
This is not merely a promise; it is a spiritual law. Every law produces predictable results when it is obeyed. Just as the law of gravity never fails, the law of giving never loses its power.
Giving is therefore not an optional activity for believers; it is an expression of covenant compliance. Every citizen of God's Kingdom has obligations that accompany the privileges of sonship. We honour God through our obedience, and one of the clearest demonstrations of that obedience is our willingness to give whenever He places an opportunity before us.
Whether through tithes, offerings, supporting the work of the Gospel, helping the poor, extending kindness to strangers, caring for widows and orphans, or simply meeting the needs of those around us, every act of generosity becomes an act of worship. God does not merely look at what we give; He looks at the heart from which it comes.
Perhaps the greatest revelation about giving is found in the very character of God Himself. John 3:16 begins with one of the most powerful words in Scripture: "For God so loved the world that He gave..." Love did not merely speak; love gave. Before God ever asked humanity to give, He became the first giver.
The greatest gift Heaven could ever offer was Jesus Christ. Calvary is eternal proof that giving changes destinies. If God had withheld His Son, humanity would have remained lost forever.
Redemption itself was made possible because God chose generosity over reservation.
This explains why giving remains one of the greatest laws of wealth creation. Every harvest begins with a seed. Every tree begins with something that appears insignificant. No farmer expects a harvest from an empty field, and no believer should expect supernatural increase while neglecting the principle of sowing.
Genesis 8:22 declares that "while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest... shall not cease." This covenant is not limited to agriculture; it governs every area of life. Relationships flourish when love is sown. Businesses grow when value is sown. Influence expands when service is sown. Financial increase follows faithful stewardship and generous sowing.
It is therefore no coincidence that many of the world's greatest philanthropists are also among its greatest wealth creators. Studies on philanthropy and social capital have consistently shown that generous individuals often build stronger relationships, wider networks of trust and greater opportunities for collaboration. Generosity creates goodwill, strengthens communities and inspires reciprocal support. While giving should never be reduced to a financial formula or treated as a guarantee of material riches, it remains true that generous people often cultivate environments where opportunity, trust and long-term growth can flourish.
The Apostle Paul referred to something deeper than financial capacity when he spoke about "the grace of giving" in 2 Corinthians 8. This grace enables people to give joyfully even in seasons of scarcity. It is possible to possess great wealth and still struggle to give, just as it is possible to have little and yet give generously with gladness. The difference is not the amount in one's account but the condition of one's heart. Giving is not first an economic issue; it is a spiritual one. When God grants the grace to give, fear loses its grip, faith takes its place, and generosity becomes a lifestyle rather than an occasional event.
Those who control wealth often understand a principle that others overlook: money flows toward purpose. Wealth is attracted to those who know how to steward it responsibly. Closed hands rarely receive new blessings because they cannot release what they already possess. An old African proverb says, "The river that forgets to flow soon becomes a swamp." Likewise, resources that never circulate eventually lose their purpose. Generosity keeps blessings in motion. As Winston Churchill wisely observed, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Anne Frank echoed the same truth when she wrote, "No one has ever become poor by giving."
Giving, however, is not ultimately about enriching God. The Creator of heaven and earth lacks nothing. Psalm 50 reminds us that every beast of the forest and the cattle upon a thousand hills already belong to Him.
When God asks us to give, He is not seeking to increase His resources; He is developing our character. Giving breaks the power of greed, destroys the spirit of selfishness, strengthens our dependence on Him and teaches us to become faithful stewards rather than possessive owners. God is far more interested in what giving produces within us than in what it places before Him.
As believers, our purpose on earth is not measured by the size of our possessions but by the impact of our obedience.
Every opportunity to give is an invitation to participate in God's work on earth. It may come as a tithe, an offering, a gift to missions, support for a struggling family, a scholarship for a student, food for the hungry, or a simple act of kindness that restores hope to someone who has lost it.
In every case, Heaven sees more than the gift; Heaven sees the heart.
Therefore, let us pray for the grace to become cheerful and faithful givers. May God remove every fear that keeps us from obeying His voice.
May He deliver us from the poverty mentality that believes security is found in what we keep rather than in the God who provides. May He teach us to see every act of generosity as an investment in eternity and every seed of obedience as preparation for a future harvest.
At the end of life, people will remember neither the balance in our accounts nor the treasures locked away in vaults. They will remember the lives we touched, the burdens we lifted, the Kingdom we advanced and the hope we restored. For when opportunity meets obedience, giving becomes worship; when giving becomes worship, Heaven responds with favour; and where faithful generosity is practised, lives are transformed, destinies are changed and God's glory is revealed.
