“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9

In God's design, marriage is more than companionship—it is a divine partnership for dominion, purpose, and generational impact. The enemy, however, subtly works to deprive men and women of the divine benefits in their union. One of his most potent strategies is blinding men to the gifts, visions, and talents embedded in their wives. When a man refuses to recognize, nurture, and invest in his wife's potential, he is unknowingly sabotaging his own honour and legacy.

THE WIFE: A DIVINE COMPLEMENT, NOT A COMPETITOR

Wives are not given to men as burdens or distractions but as divine complements—helpers suitable for the man's vision (Genesis 2:18). A wise man who sees and supports his wife's giftings is preparing a platform for shared glory and enduring honour.

Regardless of her education or personal achievements, the honour of a wife naturally reflects back on her husband and the entire family. Consider these examples:

  • Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala – a global economic force, yet her marital identity honours the Okonjo-Iweala family.
  • Ibukun Awosika – a powerhouse in leadership and entrepreneurship, her rise enhances her husband’s legacy.
  • Olubukola Oladipo, Ifeyinwa Nwakwesi, and others—all these women brought dignity to their husband’s name, not just their personal brand.

MEN: YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN—INVEST WISELY

A man who refuses to sow into his wife's vision is like a captain ignoring the compass and sails on a ship. You may steer, but without her wind, you go nowhere meaningful. Leadership is not about dominance but direction, empowerment, and accountability.

A man must marry right—not just a pretty face but a purposeful woman. And he must pray for insight to nurture her gifts for the glory of the home and nation.

WOMEN: KNOW YOUR POWER, KNOW YOUR PLACE

While your talents may take you far, never forget the kingdom structure—every ship has a captain and a co-captain. There is no shame in order; only purpose. Submission does not mean suppression, and support does not mean slavery. Be secure enough in your calling to still honour your husband’s position as the head. Your greatness will not be dimmed by your alignment—it will be enhanced by it.

YOUTHS: ARE YOU CONSULTING GOD OR WORLDVIEW?

The current worldview is deceptive. It teaches that love is enough, looks are enough, and money is enough. But without God’s leading, any decision in marriage becomes a gamble that may end in calamity. Choosing a spouse must be a spiritual decision, not a carnal calculation. Your destiny is too big to be entrusted to feelings alone.

Before you say “I do,” ask:

  • Can this person support my vision?
  • Can I empower their purpose?
  • Can we become one without crushing each other?

MARRIAGE IS FOR NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION

Strong families birth strong communities. Every great nation is built on great homes. When husbands and wives walk in unity, purpose, and mutual respect, the ripple effects are seen in governance, education, business, and societal values.

CALL TO ACTION: BUILD THE FUTURE TOGETHER

  • Men: See your wife as a divine investment. Don’t kill her dreams—sponsor them.
  • Women: Walk in wisdom and order. Your wings will fly better with structure.
  • Youth: Don’t choose by sight; consult the Spirit. Don’t follow trends—follow truth.
  • Couples: Work as a team. Honour one another, pray together, build together.

"Except the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it..." – Psalm 127:1

Let us return to God’s pattern for marriage—a union of purpose, power, and progress. From vibrant homes will rise a vibrant nation. Your marriage is a ministry. Build it to last.
