Sermon: Blank Cheque – Ask What You Want

Text: John 14:13-14 – “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
Introduction
Imagine walking into a bank and being given a blank cheque, signed and authorized, with the ability to fill in any amount you desire. The power of that cheque is not in the paper itself but in the authority of the one who signed it. Spiritually, God offers us a "blank cheque" in His promises—an open invitation to ask for whatever we need according to His will.
This sermon will explore:

1. Qualifications: Who Can Receive a Blank Cheque from God?
Not everyone can receive or use a blank cheque from God. There are conditions:
a. Relationship with the Giver (John 15:7)
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
God gives blank cheques to those who are in relationship with Him.
If you abide in Christ, you gain access to divine resources.
b. Alignment with God’s Will (1 John 5:14-15)
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us."
The cheque must be written in alignment with God's will.
Many prayers go unanswered because they seek selfish or ungodly desires (James 4:3).
c. Faith in the Authority of the Cheque (Mark 11:24)
"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
The cheque is valid only if you believe in its worth.
Faith activates the promise of God.
2. How to Use Your Blank Cheque
If God has given you an open invitation to ask, how do you use it wisely?
a. Fill in the Right Request (Solomon’s Example – 1 Kings 3:5-14)
God gave Solomon a blank cheque, saying, “Ask what I shall give thee” (1 Kings 3:5).
Solomon asked for wisdom, not riches, and received both. What you write on your cheque determines what you receive.
b. Use the Name of Jesus as Authorization (John 14:13-14)
A cheque without a signature is invalid. The signature that makes heaven’s cheque valid is the name of Jesus. Whatever you ask in His name carries divine approval.
c. Present It with Thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6)
Thanksgiving is the ink that writes your desires in God’s book of remembrance. Instead of worrying, present your requests with gratitude.
3. The Purpose of a Divine Blank Cheque
Why does God give us access to unlimited resources?
a. To Glorify God (John 14:13)
When God answers our prayers, His name is glorified. The cheque is not just for personal gain but for kingdom impact.
b. To Advance His Kingdom (Matthew 6:33)
God’s provision is for His purpose. Seek first His kingdom, and all other things will be added.
c. To Bless Others (Genesis 12:2)
Abraham was blessed to be a blessing. What God gives you should overflow to others.
Conclusion: Fill in Your Cheque Today!
The cheque is in your hands. What will you write? Will it be selfish, or will it be kingdom-focused? Ask boldly, believe completely, and watch God fulfill His promises in your life.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving us access to Your divine resources. Help us to ask according to Your will and for Your glory. May our requests align with Your kingdom purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
